The next step is to comprehensively validate the finite element analysis method so that it can be used to optimise the suggested design. Open and closed gate loading should be analysed, in addition to transverse loading. This would require a more complex FEA model - it would be necessary to model the gate/body assembly, taking into account the differing material properties and the constraints at the joints. Optimisation of the geometry could also take into account processing considerations by using injection moulding simulation software such as Moldflow Plastic Insight (MPI). MPI could be used to optimise processing conditions and mould design. Further study should be carried out into the friction and wear characteristics of 90HMF40 in relation to climbing ropes.
